Should You Wear tights to Job Interviews or Work?

$

Whether or not to wear pantyhose remains a contested issue among female employees and job seekers. Changes in fashion and workplace dress codes have caused some women to forgo pantyhose for bare legs, while other women claim pantyhose are still essential. Who is right?

Dress Codes and Culture

Wearing tights to job interviews or work depends on a number of factors, starting with the company. If you know the company allows business casual dress, you should feel fine not wearing pantyhose, but if business dress (a pantsuit or a suit with a blouse) is preferred, pantyhose would be more appropriate.

If you are unsure about the company's dress policies, ask. If you have an interview coming up, you can call the front desk and ask. If you know someone who works for the company, you can ask them for advice as well.

Many people believe wearing pantyhose is a generational preference and that today's work professionals don't need to do so. Pantyhose may be less essential today than they were a generation ago, but regardless of age, job seekers always should think about the company's culture before deciding to skip the leg wear.

When in doubt about whether or not to wear pantyhose, always err on the side of caution, especially in an interview. It’s always better to be slightly overdressed in an interview than to be under dressed.

Choosing the Right tights

If you decide to wear pantyhose, stick to either nude or black (opaque) tights, especially when interviewing. Coloured and patterned tights have become trendy recently, but they do not always convey professionalism.

Once you are hired by a company and have a better feel for its culture, you can decide whether more playful types of tights and tights are acceptable.

What to Wear With tights

You can wear tights with a dress or a skirt. If you wear a dress, you might choose a neutral colour like black, Gray, beige, or navy blue. You can pair the dress with a matching blazer or a cardigan.

However, you might also try wearing a statement dress, or a dress in an interesting colour, such as a muted turquoise or maroon. With this kind of dress, you do not need to wear any other accessories (such as a necklace), because the bold dress speaks for itself. Any other elements of your outfit — such as your shoes or jacket — should be muted in pattern and colour. You also want to make sure the neckline and hemline are appropriate. The dress should not be too short, and you do not want a revealing decolletage.

Instead of a dress, you might wear a skirt with tights. Like a dress, you can wear a neutral-coloured skirt, or pair a statement skirt with a simple top. You can pair a skirt with a blazer, a button-down, a blouse, a cardigan, or sweater. Make sure the skirt is not too short or too tight.

Alternative Work Wear

If you simply hate wearing tights, consider wearing a professional outfit other than a skirt or dress. If the company prefers business dress, consider wearing a business suit, dress pants with a sweater, blouse, cardigan, or a button-down shirt.

If you wear dress pants, pick a neutral colour, like black, Gray, beige, or navy blue. You can add a pop of colour with your blouse.

SHINY TIGHTS OR MATT TIGHTS? THE MILLION-DOLLAR QUESTION!

To gloss or not to gloss; that’s the question. The million-dollar question, along with the bare-leg or tights-on question we all ask ourselves at some point over the summer. Shiny tights (both sheer and opaque) are super trendy right now, but, still, many people out there prefer matt tights to glossy hosiery. We have asked the experts, AKA the lovely people at UK Tights. This is what they’ve said:

Dawn loves wearing shiny tights

“There are a great many people who believe that glossy tights are not the right thing to wear. Personally, I love shiny tights. The way they make your legs shimmer and shine as you walk is something that I find very appealing”.

I simply adore sheer shiny tights. I like the smooth shine that gives your legs that just oiled look. You can also wear higher deniers when wearing sheers. This gives an even glossier look and can also address some of those issues with marks. Dawn’s all the time-favourite glossy sheer tights are Levante Class Shiny Tights and Aristoc Ultra Shine Tummy-Control Tights“.
Marta prefers a matt finish

“I don’t much care for glossy tights. You must have flawless legs to wear them as they show every mark. I much prefer matt tights as you get a more even look. One of Marta’s favourite tights for summer are bare-leg looking tights Kunert Fresh Up“.
Sammy goes for super shiny tights

“I love super shiny pantyhose. I feel that they enhance the curves of your legs and give the impression of silk against your skin. As you walk the muscles of your legs and the structure can be seen more easily giving them shape and contour”.Super glossy: Cecilia de Rafael Eterno 15 Tights
Georgina is in the matt hosiery team

I prefer matt tights as they give a much smoother, more natural look. Much better for covering blemishes. If you have tiny spots on your legs you’re less likely to see them with matt tights”.
Rachael goes for the best of both: A satin finish!

“I like a more satin product. Not matt or gloss but somewhere in the middle. The best of both worlds really. I think you can get away with satin legwear for day or evening”.

“It will go with just about any outfit and you could go from office to dinner date wearing the same product”.
For Rebecca, the tights’ finish depends on the outfit

“I think it all depends on your outfit. If you have a very shiny dress, then you wouldn’t dream of wearing matt tights. Your legwear should be matched accordingly”.
What about you? Do you prefer glossy tights or matt tights?

So, what are your favourites? Would you go for the ultimate high gloss legwear, for that just oiled look or a powder-like finish that gives your legs the more natural, “I’m not wearing legwear” look? Perhaps you’d plump for something in the middle, a satin look product, like Rachael. Our best-selling: Pierre Mantoux Eclatant Black Tights

If you love a shiny finish, you’ll be glad to read that glossy legwear is super trendy right now. So, why not wear shiny tights that are sheer to waist with short shorts or a mini skirt? Denim is massive again and we never seem to tire of this fabric. Maybe you can match your shiny tights with a leather outfit or even some metallic-coloured clothes!

Look at some of the gorgeous shiny legwear we have in store now and bring your wardrobe right up to date. If you’ve never worn glossy tights before, it’s time to take the plunge!

STOCKINGS VS TIGHTS: WHICH IS RIGHT FOR ME?

Stockings or tights? What’s the difference and which ones are best for you? These are questions we get asked a lot here at Luxury-Legs, so we’re here to help. The stockings vs tights dilemma has been going on for decades, so we’ll weigh up the pros and cons of each style to help you decide which is right for you.

But first:
Stockings vs Tights: What’s the Difference?

Stockings and tights appear very similar, at least on the surface, but most of us know they differ in several important ways. Both are commonly crafted from nylon and are designed to be perfectly form-fitting, but this is generally where the similarity ends.

Stockings: These traditionally cover the leg from the foot up to just above the knee or up to the mid-thigh. The stockings are then historically worn with suspender belts and suspenders to keep them from falling down, though the invention of hold-ups has provided an alternative to this. Stockings are also traditionally sheer, though you can find opaque stockings in most modern collections these days.

Tights: Unlike stockings, tights cover the legs from the toes all the way up to the waist with no interruptions. Traditionally thicker than stockings, tights are now available in a huge variety of deniers and opacities, with some styles even designed to mimic the aesthetic of stockings. Unlike stockings, tights are also available in footless varieties, and many are available without visible seams and gussets for a seamless, uninterrupted leg look.
Stockings vs Tights: Which Should I Choose?

Now we’re clear on the key differences, it’s time to look at which style of hosiery might be best suited to you. To do this, we’ve listed out the pros and cons for each style to help you make the decision.
Stockings: The Pros and Cons

Although some may think that stockings are outdated, they are in fact making a strong comeback. Now representing a golden era of beautiful, elegant and sophisticated vintage fashion, stockings are back in our lives with multiple uses, whether for everyday wear, for Date Night outfits or simply as a hidden confidence-booster. Although stockings are mostly hidden from sight, there are several reasons why millions of women tend to choose them over tights.
Let’s see some of the benefits to wearing stockings:
Wearing stockings in a crowd of people and being the only one who knows about them has an empowering feeling to it (seriously, just try it and see!)
They’re flattering to all body shapes, providing a great confidence boost
They are considered more breathable than tights due to the lack of a gusset
Stockings are adaptable to all occasions
They make you feel sexy and feminine
They are widely considered to be more comfortable to wear than tights, due to the fact they are less restrictive and cooler to wear in hot weather or at the office.

With all these fabulous benefits it’s easy to see how stockings often emerge as the victor in the stockings vs tights dilemma. But what about the downsides?
The disadvantages of stockings:

Though there are few (let’s face it, stockings are fabulous), there are several small elements that some people consider as downsides to stockings:
Stockings are a little more fiddly to put on, considering the need for clipping them to suspenders and suspender belts
Stockings with suspenders also making going to the loo a little more time-consuming, as you need to unclip each time you go
Stockings can’t be worn with shorts, unlike tights, and so are slightly more restrictive in the scope of outfit options

If none of the above cause you any concern, then stockings might just win the stockings vs tights dilemma for you. Let’s take a quick look at tights before you decide, though.
Tights: The Pros and Cons

Tights hold a great advantage with their versatility. A thick opaque for the winter months keep the cold out, whereas a sheer pair in the summer is a great way to finish any outfit. A control top pair of tights is definitely a girl’s best friend, as the spandex in them flattens and smoothes the stomach and bottom, while patterned tights add a whole new dimension to all kinds of outfits. Let’s take a closer look at the pros and cons of wearing tights:
The Benefits of Tights:
Tights are quicker and easier to put on that stockings as there is no need for suspenders
Tights traditionally carry a wider variety of styles, deniers and designs than stockings
Shapewear tights are a less restricting alternative to traditional shapewear
Will see you through all 12 months of the year
Tights disguise the legs, hiding cellulite, moles, bumps, pimples, varicose veins, calluses and unshaven legs
Smooths the figure to hide any bulges for an extra confidence boost
Give a professional look, well-dressed, sophisticated and elegant
Can be worn under shorts as well as dresses and skirts, making them a little more versatile than stockings

That’s a long list of incredible benefits, right? Their versatility and convenience are the key reasons why tights do often win out in the stockings vs tights dilemma, but there are one or two disadvantages of tights, too. Let’s take a quick look:
The Disadvantages of Tights:

Just like with stockings, the list of disadvantages is decidedly smaller than the advantages. But here are a few minor elements to consider when making your choice:
Some consider tights to be too warm and too restricting due to the fact that cover the body from the toes to the waist

Tights are sometimes considered to be less ‘sexy’ than stockings, though seamed tights and fishnet tights could always give stockings a run for their money

And that’s it. Now you’ve seen the pros and cons of each style, you’re now ready to tackle your stockings vs tights dilemma. Although, who says you have to choose? Some occasions call for stockings, while a simple pair of tights might be the perfect option for others. Both are equally relevant in modern lifestyles, inviting you to build up your own collection of each style so you’re ready for absolutely anything.

7 fun (and grown-up) ways to wear tights this season From embracing bold colours to taking them into the evening

Although tights were out of favour in fashion for some time (with most of us aiming to get through winter without putting a pair on), the last few seasons has seen the likes of Saint Laurent, Céline, Chanel, Tom Ford and Gucci (whose were crystal-embellished no less) jump back onto team tights. Still not convinced? Here, we round up 10 fun (and grown-up) ways to wear them for the season ahead.

Be bold
If the latest collection from Tom Fordis anything to go by, when it comes to tights: the bolder, the better. If you really want to embrace Ford's head-turning look, match the rest of your outfit to the statement print.

Brighten up your classics
If going head-to-toe print á la Tom Ford is too daunting for you, instead, inject just one bright colour into your ensemble. This pop of red instantly elevates her monochromatic look.

White is the new black
Although black is known as the go-to colour when it comes to tights, white can be just as chic – and far more original. Another bonus: they can make your coloured shoes really pop.

After dark
Alexander Wang's final fashion showproved that tights really shouldn't be left in your school uniform days. Paired with elegant patent black heels and a slinky dress, take them into the evening and get ready for your outfit to ooze attitude.

Make it quirky
Although tights have the potential for excellent evening wear, they can also be used to inject a little bit of fun into an ensemble, which Alexa Chung proves with her spotty offering.

Colour block
It looks as if Kendall Jenner has been channelling Gossip Girl's Blair Warldorf of late with her colour-block tights and school girl uniform. Her supermodel twist though? Sky-high heels and a fashionable faux-fur coat. We will be following suit.

Layer them up
An even bolder way to tap into the tights trend this season is to layer them up with socks and heels. Here, this Fendi print is perfectly complimented by the chunky ankle sock and buckled shoe.
